Photo and Image Editing –
Special Interest Group

  • Most Fridays during school terms, 1pm-3pm
Emails are sent regularly to inform members about the week's topics.

  • Group Leader is Bob Callcut.

  • No enrolment necessary

  • You must be a Member of the Tauranga SeniorNet Club to attend.

  • Weekly attendance fee is $2. Pay each time you attend the group session.

  • This is not a set course of instruction. It is an opportunity for members who have an interest in photo editing to meet together to share knowledge and skills and to seek solutions to photo editing issues.

Making Panoramas

Every person with a digital camera eventually comes to take a picture that is too wide, too tall or just too big to fit into a single photo.

The solution is to create a panorama which is a series of photographs stitched together to form one picture.

PhotoFiltre – more selections, etc.

man-silhouette

On 23rd March the group was shown additional "selection" shapes, patterns and masks for use with PhotoFiltre. The process of installing the additional files was demonstrated and several of those attending received copies of the files for use with the PhotoFiltre programs already on their own computers.

Instructions for downloading and installing those extras are available now.
Get a PDF set of instructions.

If you received the already unzipped files at the Friday afternoon session, you won't need to do the downloading or the unzipping.

All you need to do is to copy the files from your USB Drive to the folders described in the "Applying the Downloaded Files" part of the instructions.

Removing the "Ex"

Here's how to delete portions of a photo without leaving any obvious gaps.
Layers are used to achieve this.
Read illustrated instructions.

FastStone Image Viewer

FastStone Image Viewer has many useful picture editing tools. The tutorial notes listed below will help you master the use of some of them.

  • You can add labels, callouts and descriptions on a transparent background so that the image is visible through it, or you can have the text on a plain coloured area, adjusting the opacity to suit.
A border to the area can be added with colour and thickness of your choice.

  • Batch Resizing images — When several images need to be reduced in file size, the task can be made quicker by doing them as a batch, rather than working on each one separately.
Get a PDF set of instructions.

  • Slideshow Maker – FastStone Image Viewer can make simple slideshows with audio backgrounds and slide transitions.

  • Screen Capture – This tool allows you to take a snapshot of all or part of the computer screen. You may select a rectangle, a free-form area, one of the windows on screen, or the entire screen.
