Prerequisites

      In order to register for the Spreadsheet Course you must:
  • have completed the courses Introduction to Computers and Computing Skills, and
  • have the spreadsheet program Microsoft Excel 2007 or newer on your computer.
    Note: Excel is one part of Microsoft Office.

The Spreadsheet Course

A spreadsheet is a page set out in rows and columns, each cell of which can contain numbers or words. The spreadsheet is able to automatically add up rows and columns of figures and display the results for you.
So it can be like an electronic cashbook which can be printed out on paper if you wish. It can also do your tax calculations but calculating is only one of its uses.
It could be an address book, a score sheet, an inventory or a club's membership register.

During this course you will learn the basic operating skills for using a spreadsheet and then extend your knowledge as you do the exercises.

  • create a spreadsheet, format, preview, print and save a spreadsheet
  • moving and copying cell contents
  • format cells, rows, and columns

  • print the spreadsheet
  • save the spreadsheet to disk
  • retrieve a spreadsheet from the disk
  • freeze titles and hide selected columns and rows
  • apply borders and shading to selected portions of the spreadsheet
