How can you read a document or view a picture when it is sent to you in a format that doesn't match the programs on your computer?

The answer is that you use a free program which enables you to see the file and to print it.

Adobe Reader – enables you to read and print documents created with Adobe Acrobat or converted into Adobe format. Businesses often use this format to send information to their shareholders and customers.

The files are referred to as PDF files (Portable Document Format). They are popular because what you see on screen or on paper is exactly the same as the way it looked on the computer where it was created. Few other programs can do this so reliably.

FastStone Image Viewer is a modern, easily used program enabling you to view and edit pictures that have been stored in any of a large number of different formats. Pictures may be viewed in Thumbnail size and in Full-screen mode. It has many image editing functions and can be linked to any other image editor you have on your computer.

IrfanView – enables you to view pictures in many formats, scrolling through a folder of pictures just like a slide show. But IrfanView is far more than that. It enables you to change a picture's file-type, size, colouration, and lots more.

PowerPoint Viewer – enables you to view PowerPoint presentations, but not to create them.

PowerPoint itself is a component of Microsoft Office and is used both to create and to view presentations.
