What does AM-DeadLink do?
Web sites are not permanent fixtures on the Internet. Like a magazine they may cease publication at any time. Sometimes a web site remains on the Internet but has its pages rearranged and renamed. In such cases the web site address in your Favorites folder is no longer correct. You have a dead link.
AM-DeadLink works through your Favorites list, checking each entry for accuracy and reporting on any errors that it finds. You are then able to remove or correct the entry, thus keeping the list useful and up to date.
How to obtain and install AM-DeadLink
- Download the setup file from www.aignes.com.
Save it into your My Documents folder, or into a Downloads folder that you have made within My Documents.
- From the desktop select My Documents. Locate the AM-DeadLink file and double-click on it. It is named dlsetup.exe.
- Follow on-screen directions to install the program, accepting the settings suggested.
How to check your Favorites list for dead links
- Connect your computer to the Internet. If you have a broadband connection you won't need to do this step because you will normally be connected whenever your computer is going.
Start the
program AM-DeadLink by double-clicking its icon on the Desktop or by selecting it from the Start menu.
Click on Bookmarks » Check Bookmarks
or click on the Check Bookmarks button on the Toolbar or press the F9 key. Wait while the links are checked and the status of each one is listed in the Status column. This will take a minute or two if you have a dial-up internet connection, but only a few seconds if you have broadband.
- To gather all the errors together at the top of the list, click on the
icon on the Toolbar
- To edit an address in the list, right-click on it and select Properties.
Select and edit either or both the Name and the URL (address). Then click on Change.

Help files
To access the Help file, either select Help » Contents or press the F1 key.
Hints
- The Home Page of a web site usually retains the same address, but other pages may be added or removed, or their names may be altered. So the most stable URL to keep in your Favorites folder is the URL of the site's Home Page.
If an address such as http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront is no longer valid, edit the URL by removing the characters after the NZ cgi-bin/dse.storefront.
- To locate the new URL of a web site, try using Google to search for the page. Then edit the entry in your Favorites folder.
How to Uninstall AM-DeadLink
