Prerequisites

  1. "Introduction to Computers" and

  2. either "Computing Skills" or "Word Processing."
Important! This course is only for users of Windows Vista and Windows XP computers.

The program Microsoft Paint

MS Paint Logo Microsoft Paint is installed as an accessory on every computer that runs on Windows.

The course manual has instructions that deal with Windows Vista and Windows XP computers.
It does not suit Windows 7 computers where MS Paint uses ribboned toolbars and menu items instead of the tradition drop-down menus.

With Microsoft Paint you can draw and colour freehand shapes or ready-made shapes such as circles, ovals, and rectangles. Shapes may be duplicated or moved within the picture or between two pictures. Words may be written on the drawing canvas. Photos or other pictures may be incorporated into your creations.

This course is very much a hands-on activity based series of lessons, and is a lot of fun.

The manual describes how to use the drawing tools of MS Paint, and suggests activities to practise these skills. Your coach will explain and demonstrate them and will suggest lots of creative ideas for using your newly acquired MS Paint skills.

In addition you will be able to design and make your own colourful patterns, seeking guidance from your coach as required.

You will learn about –

  • setting the size of the drawing area
  • drawing rectangles, squares, circles, ovals, other polygons and curves
  • filling the shapes with colours
  • saving your picture onto a disk, and opening it again from the disk for your next session's work
  • changing the colours using the palette, and making new colours to add to the palette
  • erasing lines and shapes
  • blending colours with the airbrush tool
  • adding text to a drawing, moving it within the picture area
  • using either transparent or opaque mode to copy or move parts of a picture
  • using the colour-picker tool to copy an existing colour to the palette or drawing tool
  • inverting colours so that each colour in the selected area is replaced by the colour that is opposite on the colour wheel
  • flipping, skewing and rotating selected parts of a picture to create patterns with composite shapes
