The Tauranga SeniorNet Club (Inc.) is a voluntary, non-profit club for Seniors, where members help each other learn how to use computers and digital cameras.
Like any other Club we are managed by a committee, elected from among our members each year.
There are about 300 members in the club.
There are more than 100 SeniorNet clubs in New Zealand.
The Tauranga SeniorNet Club is a member of the SeniorNet Federation of New Zealand.
The computer classes
We teach seniors how to use computers that have a Microsoft Windows operating system. We do not teach people how to use Apple Mackintosh (Mac) or Linux computers.
Our classroom has seven Windows 7 computers, four Windows Vista computers and one Windows XP computer (as at November 2010).
Classes are held each weekday between the hours of 9.00 - 11.00 a.m., 11.30 a.m. - 1.30 p.m. and 2.00 - 4.00 p.m.
Students attend one lesson per week for the duration of each course.
There are usually only eight places available in each class, with some classes restricted to six students.
Most classes have three coaches to assist you with your learning. The coaches are volunteers, most of whom have learned computing at SeniorNet.
Each student has the use of a computer during lessons, learning and practising skills that are described in detail in their Course Manual. The coaches introduce new skills and move among the students offering assistance as required.
The activities completed are saved onto USB Flash Drives (memory sticks) which students take home for practice on their own computers during the week.
Some students bring their own laptop computers to class. Computers with screens smaller than 15½ inches in size are not allowed to be used in class.
During each lesson there is a break for tea or coffee.
Where are we?
Our Learning Centre is at Unit 70, Village on 17th, 17th Avenue, Tauranga. That's just uphill from the Wickham Pre-School. We have our own drive-in entrance. Turn right once through the gateway and then park at the bottom of the slope up to the classroom block.
