pdf995 converts document files to pdf format.

pdf995 converts files from Word, Excel, Publisher, etc. to the universally used PDF format.
This is a generally used way of sending files to others, knowing that they will see the identical layout and information that you see on your computer.
To view PDF files, you use one of the free programs Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader.

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a universal file format that is commonly used in the business world and elsewhere for sending documents to others.

Advantages of PDF

  1. The sender can be sure that it will be viewable and printable by the recipient in exactly the same format in which it was created.
  2. The recipient can view and print the document perfectly, using the readily available free program Adobe Acrobat Reader.

PDF995 is a free program for converting Word, Excel, Publisher and other documents into PDF format.
You write your document with your usual program and, using pdf995, it is saved as a PDF file, ready for sending.
It can be sent as an email attachment, or as a file on a floppy disk, CD or USB Flash Drive. It can be viewed on a web site and downloaded or printed from there.

How to get PDF995
You can download the files from www.pdf995.com/download.html
They produce quite a lot of stuff. Only download the two files you require.

  1. On the pdf995 web site, on the menu at the right-hand side, click on pdf995 (not pdf995 Suite).
  2. Download the pdf995 Printer Driver,
saving it into your My Documents or your Downloads folder.
  3. Again at the pdf995 web site, in the same panel, download the Free Converter,
saving it to the same folder as the first file.

How to install PDF995

  1. On the Desktop, click on My Documents and locate the two PDF installation files.
  2. Double-click on the file pdf995s.exe and follow the prompts to install it.
  3. Back at My Documents, double-click on the file ps2pdf995.exe and follow the prompts to install it.
The download dialog box looks like this.

Now you have installed both the Converter which turns your file into PDF format, and the Printer Driver that enables you to save the newly converted file.

How to use PDF995
  1. Open the document, using your usual program – Word, Excel, etc.
  2. On the Menu bar select File » Print.
On the Print dialog window, one of the "printer" options is PDF995. Select it.
  3. Select the page size on the same dialog window. Don't just leave it at the default "No scaling" or the output will be shrunk to about 92% of original size.
  4. Click on Print. The Word file (or Pub or XL) is converted to PDF and a dialog box asks for a file name and destination folder for the PDF file. Enter the information and click Save.
  5. Ignore the upgrade nag page that opens. Just cancel out of it.
Adobe Reader opens, with the converted document on display. It doesn't actually achieve anything except prove that the conversion really worked.
    Close Adobe Reader.

The free version of PDF995 displays a sponsor page in your web browser each time you run the software. Just ignore it and cancel out of any attempt to log on to the upgrade site. If you would prefer not to see the sponsor page, you may upgrade by obtaining a key at any time for US$9.95 from www.pdf995.com/upgrade.html.

There are many free PDF converters available on the web, but some of them produce low resolution PDFs – compact files but visible jaggies in the hard copy. This one produces high grade output.

If you don't already have the free program "Adobe Reader" download it from from
www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

At the Download page, be sure to remove the tick from the line offering to also install a Google toolbar on your computer. That avoids unwanted stuff being foisted on you and it makes the download smaller and quicker.
